Dr Lee Heow Yong is currently the Director, Hospital Services Division, Ministry of Health (Singapore). He leads his team in the development and coordination of services for the acute, specialist and community hospitals, and implementation of new clinical services. For the past three years, the focus has been on enabling robust hospital capacity and clinical services contingency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other work areas include the development of new acute and community hospitals, review and strategic development of key clinical services such as ED, ICU, pre-hospital services, renal and organ transplant services, etc, as well as development of services policy for emerging services such as precision medicine and cell therapy.

Previously, Dr Lee worked at the Health Promotion Board, Singapore, where he set up the National Myopia Prevention Programme. He also worked at the Singapore General Hospital’s Occupational Health and Epidemiology Unit where he was involved with disease outbreak surveillance and epidemiological investigations of healthcare associated infections. At the Ministry of Health, he was involved with patient safety, infection control and clinical quality frameworks, national standards for healthcare, and work related to transformation of care models.

Dr Lee graduated from the National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 1991. He completed his Master of Medicine (Public Health) at the National University of Singapore in 2004 and Master of Arts (Applied Psychology) (Counselling Psychology) at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University in 2002.
