Dr John Abisheganaden studied medicine at the National University of Singapore and graduated MBBS in 1989. He pursued Specialist Training in Respiratory Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), where he is currently now a Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician & the immediate past Head of Department. From October 2023, he took over as Head and Clinical Director, Health Services Outcomes Research (HSOR) for the National Healthcare Group (NHG). He is active as a clinician scientist, teacher and educator, with more than 100 publications both in local and international peer-reviewed journals.

He is currently active in the Singapore medical community, being an Ex-Chairman of the Chapter of Respiratory Physicians (College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine, 2009-2012), an ex-president of the Singapore Thoracic Society (2002-3), a Clinical Associate Professor for the YLL-School of Medicine-National University of Singapore, and a reviewer for both local and international medical journals. He is also an Adjunct Assoc. Professor for the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
