Anders Ahlsson is a consultant cardiac surgeon and Associate Professor in cardiac surgery. He is currently the Managing Director of the Heart and Vascular Theme at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. In this position, he is responsible for the care of patients in the fields of cardiology, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery at Karolinska, including research and education assignments. He is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and member of many international task forces and committees. His research profile is mainly focused on epidemiological and surgical aspects of atrial fibrillation. In his current position, he is leading the transformation of the cardiovascular care at Karolinska into a new management model, with patient quality and outcome as the primary driving forces.
